Perhaps the British who come to Barcelona should drink less. At any rate, as long as they come to do little more than drink, vomit, piss, leer, and philander, no Spaniard or Catalan will pay their whining much mind.

      100% d’acord

      • Un guiri on October 16, 2011 at 11:55 am

Me parece que estáis echando balones fuera (typical Spanish). Sí sólo roban a los ingleses borrachos porque tenemos este articulo de esta misma web…

“Deputy Carmen de Rivera Plá from the parliamentary sub-group, Ciudadanos-Partido de la Ciudadanía, was robbed on Wednesday October 5th while sitting on a bench outside the main entrance to the Catalan Parliament.”

        http://www.robbedinbarcelona.com/2011/10/07/robbery-at-the-gates-of-the-catalan-parliament/

This doesn’t just happen to drunk hooligans. Yes, there are many British who come and do all of the above, but there are others who don’t. I have lived here 5 years and I live here because I love the country, the region, the culture and most of all the City of Barcelona. How about middle aged couples who come here to visit museums and see some of the many things the city has to offer? They are not drunk, and they still get robbed. The whining guiris which you are complaining about spend on average €90 per person per day in the city not including accommodation. They bring a significant amount of money to the city. I think that attitude is quite frankly disgusting. Nobody deserves to be robbed, wherever they come from and whatever activities they do.

      • Cas on January 13, 2012 at 10:54 am

Well said, Paul. Bobo and Cat’s attitude is blunt, ignorant and unhelpful.

  2. cat on October 14, 2011 at 12:54 pm

well, you can be robbed ALL OVER THE WORD, not only in Barcelona…
if you go in Lloret you’ll see the young (and not so young) “tourists’” behavior
We should have a “disturbedinlloret.com” website too

    im from BCN

I’m a barcelonian and yes it is all true what this page says! I feel ashame of it & can not understand the lack of interest by the local goverments to put an end to this criminal behaviour. All I can say as a Català is sorry! Is not us! we suffer it too.

    • Brian on October 14, 2011 at 8:13 pm

Totally agree, it is also my case. It would seem that legislators, judges and police have agreed to boycott tourism in BCN

  4. Indignant resident on October 16, 2011 at 9:46 pm

I’ve lived in central Barcelona for 10 years and it’s far worse now than any time in those years. I see thieves several times a week, eyeing up their targets – wherever we go it’s guaranteed – metro, streets, parc ciutadella, beach, in a bar, on the terrace…. My parents have been robbed, my friends when visiting, even though they were warned and well informed of the dangers. This year we now have a group of thieves living on our street, openly and arrogantly robbing in the Born area, and running back to the flat with the stolen bags – they take what they want and throw an empty bag out on to the street below. Recently they robbed a shop on the street, stealing the laptop – everybody knows who they are, the police know and have visited the building many many times. They say they can’t take action for various legal reasons relating to the property. Meanwhile our street and area is insecure for tourists and residents alike. We told the police last week that it’s no exaggeration that we feel the next death of someone trying to stop a robbery, such as the poet who died not far away, could happen in our street. It’s heading down the road of us leaving Barcelona, we’re so fed up of it. We need to organise an international Tourist Boycott of Barcelona, to up the anti so the government takes notice. Of course, people won’t stop coming in sufficient numbers, but the bad publicity would help. What do you think?

    • Rob Daly on October 16, 2011 at 9:57 pm

I heard something this week about a particular building on Banys Vells being a centre of activity. Are you referring to this street, or another?
International Tourist Boycott. I like that idea. Perhaps I should have started that campaign rather than this one, because it has a nice ring to it as well. Still, it’s something that could be done… know anyone good with video cameras? I really need someone to go down outside the police stations and record tourists coming out having had their bags and purses stolen!

      • Antohny Green on October 16, 2011 at 10:11 pm

We’ve heard about Banys Vells [number redacted] fitting the description – sounds like it’s reputation goes before it. Why can’t the police evict the thieves if they know who they are and where they live? Yet another example of government inaction.
The tourist boycott idea sounds good in principle but might alienate possible support within Barcelona…?

    • Paul on December 12, 2011 at 3:29 am

I don’t think an international tourist boycott is the right idea. I am in the process of opening a business which will rely on international tourism. Is it right that business owners and hard working people will lose income? There must be other ways….

  5. Indignant resident on October 17, 2011 at 12:06 am

Yep, Banys Vells, number [redacted] to be precise, is the one.

    • david brock on April 25, 2012 at 6:27 pm

Incredible…. it’s just out of control here at the moment. I see the same gang of thieves up on C/ Carders – Forat de la Vergonya / Sta Caterina every day. They are operating with complete impunity. Warned some visiting friends about that bunch last week …. & guess what, gold chain snatched from a 60 year olds neck by a thief on a bicycle in Plaza Allada Vermell. She didn’t want to go to the polkice station for the denuncia & claimed it wasn’t of high value – just sentimental. I wonder how many thousands of snatches like this go unreported each year…..??
Been here for 14 years & it’s never been so bad & get this , the proper tourist ‘season’ has only just begun!

It is always possible to suffer a burglary anywhere in the world.
Do not lose the opportunity to visit such a wonderful place like Barcelona for it.
    Greetings from Barcelona.
