A “Robbed in Barcelona” contributor has sent us a photo he took on January 23rd, 2012 of three individuals he believes were stealing a number of bicycles.

We’ve put a thin black strip across the eyes of the three, but if your bicycle was stolen that morning on the corner of Carrer del Comte d’Urgell and Carrer d’Aragó, tell us and we’ll send you the unedited photo in high resolution.

Our contributor said: “I saw one guy breaking up a bicycle chain while another guy was controlling. I hope this picture will be useful for recognizing them in the future. I am quite sensitive with this issue because my bicycle was stolen last year.”

He continued: “The guy on the right side of the photo broke the lock. They broke more than one lock, so it was not only one bicycle. Pay attention to all the details in the picture, I consider it quite suspicious that three guys should be standing together like that. You can see one saddle on the ground (beside the guy on the left), the guy in the middle is directing them.”

See below the image for more information on the location of this incident, from Google Maps and Google Street View.

I am always amazed that it is worth stealing these cheap bicycles. In Germany they probably wouldn’t even be locked properly.

I think it is one reason why Bicing is so successful. I certainly wouldn’t park my own bicycle anywhere in Barcelona.

I live in München (maybe the safest city in Germany) and I never would leave a cheap old bike without locking, it really can fly. If u have a fancy bike then keep it at home or in the backyard (if you have a safe one). If u leave a fancy bike sleeping for some nights in the street (locked) you are really tempting your luck. Ah Btw, the people in the picture they are not locals, they are east mafia.

My supermarket bike (Euro. 89) was stolen 3 times already -with rather good locks. By the way, the only locks that will work are the ones worth Euro. 50 and up. It’s ridiculous.
This weekend I witnessed a new handbag robbery while sitting at Alsur Café in the Born. I realized too late what was happening to even try to do something about it. It is clear to me now that they work with 2 and the guy that runs DOES NOT have the stolen handbag. It is the second guy who stays calm and walks looking (like everybody else) at the guy who is running who actually hides he stolen goods in his jacket. I don’t know how this info will help anyone, but I thought I would share it anyway. I guess it is only useful for those of you who decide to take the law in their own hands….
